On the Glorious Wild

Wild is many things to many different people. For some, the wild is scary. For others it is mysterious. For others still, it is a place of quiet solitude. Views of the wild are almost as many as the humans who ponder such things. It is such a place of mysterious ambiguity that what the wild is all depends on your point of view.

Since the dawn of civilisation, humans have always wrestled with the things that separate us from those who, from our point of view, are inferior to us. We live in denial, with the impression that we are nothing like animals. The truth is we are. Humans can be violent, and they can be gentle. They can be smart, and they can be dumb. They can be complacent, and they can be adventurous. It is the juxtaposition of opposites that represents wild animals, and humans are perfect examples of this notion.

I think humanity, generally speaking, has a subconscious fear of the wild, simply because we are afraid to be like other animals, and we fear that which we have upset and damaged. The wild can be an impeccable force if its balance is disrupted, and humanity has done many things to disrupt the delicately maintained equilibrium of nature. Due to the latter fact, our race has a subconscious fear of that which we have oppressed.

However, I do not fear the wild, subconsciously or otherwise, for it is synonymous with nature from my perspective, and I truly love nature. The wild is a place of peace, separate from the scourges of mankind. It is also a place where one may extricate oneself from the stresses of civilised life, if only for a bit. I love the wild, and it is my utter contentment to walk amongst nature, and ponder the mysteries of life. In my opinion, the wild ought not to be feared, it ought to be embraced, that we may live in harmony with nature rather than vainly attempt to control it. Sadly, it would appear that such shall not be the case- at least not until after it is too late to remedy our mistakes.

Humanity’s wild nature is often evident in today’s world. Even with all of our sophistication and all of our knowledge, we are still quite animalistic at times. Violence can be seen throughout the world. This fact shows that even our civilisation gives in to our wild side from time to time. The violence seen throughout the world is merely a testament to the fact that, in the end, we are but glorified apes, whom through some means- whether supernatural or otherwise- evolved far beyond our simian cousins.

“Wild” is a word that has a plethora of meanings, which is befitting for the myriad of people who use it. It is ambiguous in nature, often allowing us to ponder on its true meaning. The wild surrounds us wherever we are, though we may not know it, and due to this fact, we must be conscious of our actions, and how they affect the delicate balance which nature tries so hard to maintain. If we forget about the wild, and how we affect it, we shall only realise the consequences of our actions after nature begins to wage war on us, but by then it shall be too late. If we do not remedy ourselves, and attempt to maintain the balance of the world, the world shall balance itself, destroying humanity in the process. My warning must be heeded by humanity, but if it is not, man shall find out the hard way that my logic is sound, and if it were to ever befall like that, it shall already be too late to right ourselves.
