Steven Smith for President

If I had to pick a relative to run for an elected office, I would pick myself, simply because I would not trust anyone else in my family to help govern our nation. A lot of them have some crazy political views, and I mean crazy. I would, of course, elect myself into the position of president, simply because I would trust myself more than any other person who could ever run for president. After all, everyone thinks they’ll be a better president than anyone else.

Once elected, the first thing I would do in office would be writing an inspirational speech to give the nation. I would talk about obstacles ahead, and how we could overcome them as long as we’re strong. Then I would include the fact that I might not be the best one for the job, but I will do my best. The difference is all of those cheesy clichés are true for me. Once I become satiated with my speech, I will immediately begin writing down my plans for the nation.

As president, the very first thing I would do is remove our troops from all foreign lands, except for miniscule numbers to protect our embassies; maybe a hundred or so per country. I would adopt an isolationist policy because, in order to help the world, you must first help your own country.

Once we have successfully broken contact with the rest of the world (save for trade), we can begin to remedy our internal conflicts. I would begin something along the lines of FDR’s New Deal, on a smaller scale. I would look for ways to improve our infrastructure so that I can create jobs for the unemployed. In addition to that sentiment, I would tax the wealthy slightly more than everyone else, and lower taxes for the poor. The middle class would have the same taxes as usual. The way I see it, the amount of money you have should reflect the amount of taxes you pay.

As soon as our economy begins rising again, I would strengthen our foreign policy, slowly but surely, that we may begin making a difference in the world as a whole. Hopefully all of my plans would work, thus making the country and the world a better place. After all, the world is bigger than the United States, glorious as we are (not).

If I had to select a family member to be placed into political office, I would choose myself, because I would not trust most of them to be a good mayor, let alone president. I think, as most people do, that I would be better than anyone else as president. I think that my policies would help us get back onto our feet, and then help us make the world as a whole a better place. It is my life’s goal to try and do so. I would die satisfied, if only I made the world better.
